Holiday schedule will affect several county services

Volusia County has announced its service schedule for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, and the changes are relevant for Edgewater residents who rely on county offices, libraries, and public transit. County administrative offices will be closed for the holiday and are set to reopen on Tuesday, May 26.

All county public library branches will also be closed on Memorial Day. For residents who use library services for internet access, printing, children’s materials, or summer reading activities, that means planning ahead before the holiday. Normal library hours are expected to resume the next day, according to the county notice.

Trash collection and landfill operations

For residents in unincorporated Volusia County, there will be no change to garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulk waste collection on Memorial Day. People with a normal Monday pickup should place materials at the curb as usual. The county also said the West Volusia Transfer Station and the Tomoka Farms Road Landfill will operate on their regular schedules.

Edgewater residents should note one important distinction: those living inside incorporated city limits may need to check with their municipal waste provider for any holiday adjustments. Because collection schedules can differ between county and city service areas, confirming pickup details in advance can help avoid missed carts or delayed disposal.

Transit changes for holiday travel

Public transportation will also run on a modified schedule. VoTran and VoAccess will operate on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day, while VoRide will not operate on the holiday. That could affect residents traveling to work, medical appointments, family gatherings, or beach destinations during the long weekend.

The county also noted that Lyonia Environmental Center, DeBary Hall, and the Marine Science Center will be closed, though those facilities are regularly closed on Mondays.
